As was evident during the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in 2001, rural recreation and tourism are key drivers of the rural economy and provide a strong economic rationale for the conservation management of rural areas. LUC’s specific interest is in the promotion of green and sustainable tourism initiatives that help bring local benefits and stimulate environmental conservation and enhancement.
