LUC were commissioned to undertake this study of two neighbouring districts in Norfolk in order to evaluate the sensitivity and capacity of different landscapes to accommodate wind turbine development.
Breckland and the Borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk possess many of the physical and geographical characteristics required for wind turbines and, if installed, they would make a significant contribution towards meeting the UK's international commitments to reducing CO2 emissions. As such there are pressures for turbine development within this area and a need for developing a strong policy framework that draws on transparent, robust and defensible background information to:
- provide a secure basis for approving and refusing wind energy development applications; and
- provide guidance to developers.
