Manor House Gardens, Lewisham

In 1996, LUC were appointed by the London Borough of Lewisham to undertake a Historic Landscape Survey and Restoration Management Plan for Manor House Gardens, Grade II listed site.

Working closely with the local community and park user group, LUC submitted the scheme to the Heritage Lottery’s Urban Parks Programme, and resulting in a £1million project.

LUC were re-appointed to implement the scheme, which was opened to much acclaim in the summer of 2000 by local MP, Bridget Prentice, with over 3000 local residents attending the ceremony.

Visitors enjoy a new cafe, flower garden and children’s playground (on the site of disused park depot), and a multi-sports area. The lake, which was originally created to provide ice for the nearby icehouse, was de-silted and restored. A new stepped access to the icehouse allows park users to experience for the first time the underground world of this 18th century refrigerator. Park entrances, railings, paths, site furniture, signage and tree and ornamental shrub planting were also fully restored.
