Trentham Gardens

The gardens and park at Trentham cover some 300 acres and are mainly known for the surviving formal gardens laid out in the 1840’s to designs by Sir Charles Barry who also created Italian style formal gardens at Harewood House, Cliveden and shrublands. The parkland setting and lake were designed by Capability Brown and overlie an earlier formal design attributed to Charles Bridgeman.

LUC worked with a number of specialist experts to prepare the refurbishment plans for the gardens and park: David Lambert (Garden Historian) and David Blissett (Architect & Architectural Historian – expert on Charles Barry) – for the formal Italian Gardens; John Phibbs, (Debois Landscape Survey Group – expert on Capability Brown) for the Park and with Tom Stewart-Smith (Landscape Architect and Garden Designer) and Piet Oudoulf (Nuseryman and Garden Designer) for replanting the parterres and pleasure grounds.
