The ecosystem services approach is becoming embedded in government policy.
This paper was delivered at a Landscape Character Network workshop by LUC Principal Lyndis Cole. It considers the importance of the ecosystem services approach and multi-purpose land use in achieving robust, functional and enhanced landscapes. It is based on research that LUC carried out for Defra that reviews the delivery of ecosystem services through Environmental Stewardship.
