Localism in action
The Government’s localism agenda and its emphasis in favour of sustainable development placed new obligations on planning authorities to consider the needs of local communities. LUC can help by providing research evidence to support policies, undertaking independent and informed engagement with communities to better define their needs and aspirations and designing the landscape setting in which new communities can thrive.
We have an established track record of analysing how market towns and other rural settlements function based on analysis of employment, travel to work and retail data. We work with local communities to help them plan for the future in response to issues such as climate change and population growth. Through our design work, we prepare master plans that integrate new developments into their landscapes and provide a strong sense of place.
LUC has extensive experience of community engagement, capacity-building, building consensus and action planning through participatory appraisal and event facilitation. Successful engagement with stakeholders is a pre-requisite for much of the work we do.
