Access & Recreation
Improving access and opportunities for recreation underpins much of LUC’s work. This includes surveys to understand existing patterns of recreational activity, developing access strategies and designing trails, the planning and delivery of Green Infrastructure strategies, recreational provision within development master plans, and creating new parks, sports facilities and playgrounds.
Our work has involved both strategy and implementation and has addressed long distance trails, core path networks, ‘safe routes to schools’, cycle route developments or improvements and PPG 17 studies. Recreational developments have included pioneering play facilities and natural play together with high-spec facilities for mountain biking, BMX, skateboarding and sports pitches.
We work closely with clients and communities to provide stimulating recreational experiences, essential with rising obesity levels, and to encourage interaction the natural environment. This includes improving accessibility via interpretation audits or recognising the needs of specific groups in the way the landscape is designed and managed.
