We are pleased to announce that we added another successful HLF bid to our portfolio this week, helping Brighton & Hove Council secure a £2.2 million Lottery grant for Phase III of The Level Restoration Project.
LUC secured funding for Phases I and II of the restoration, which aims to create a welcoming family-friendly space for residents and visitors to the city. Our plans include an exciting new water feature which will replace the original boating pond and provide a focal point in the park.
The Rose Walk will be restored and a new sensory garden will be created while a pétanque area will create a social space and bring people together. The children’s playground will be upgraded and a new environmentally friendly building will provide much needed public toilets, staff and café facilities. Planning permission for the building was granted earlier this month.
Gillian Marston, Head of City Infrastructure at Brighton & Hove Council said: “This project has the potential to change the lives of thousands of families and breathe new life into the heart of one of the more deprived areas of the city.”
Adrian Wikeley, LUC’s Principal-in-Charge, said that he is delighted to see that the HLF Stage II funding is in place and that the regeneration of this exciting public open space will commence on site soon in accordance with LUC’s design proposals.
Work on project will start in the New Year with most restoration works carried out during winter 2012/13. The money comes from the Funds’ joint Parks for People scheme.
