LUC was commissioned by Force 9 Energy Limited and Catamount Energy Limited to give landscape and visual evidence in respect of their proposed Barmoor wind farm in Northumberland. This proposal was one of three considered at a conjoined Public Inquiry into wind farms in the area to the south west of Berwick Upon Tweed.
Our evidence confirmed the nature and extent of the landscape and visual impacts associated with the proposed Barmoor Wind Farm. Other landscape architects provided evidence in respect of the Moorsyde wind farm and the proposed Toft Hill wind farm. In total seven landscape architects presented evidence at this inquiry and the potential for cumulative landscape and visual effects was one of the key issues under consideration.
The Planning Inspector, taking into account all evidence before her, decided to grant permission for Barmoor Wind Farm alone, and refused planning permission for the two other wind farms. In doing so, she ensured that wind power development in north Northumberland occurs in the most appropriate location, contributing to the region’s renewable energy targets while limiting the adverse effects on the landscape.
Our evidence was grounded in current good practice. By maintaining a rigorous and methodical approach, we were able to prepare a robust case.
