Clyde Windfarm Ecological Clerk of Works

Clyde Windfarm Ecological Clerk of Works

The Clyde Windfarm is situated in the Scottish southern uplands between Biggar and Moffat, occupying an area of 47.5km2. On completion, 152 turbines will be operational, generating a maximum capacity of 350MW (enough energy to power over 200,000 households). This will make a significant contribution towards the Scottish Government’s ambitious target to provide 50% of Scotland’s energy requirements via renewable sources and reduce CO2 emissions by 80%, confirming Scotland’s status as a world leader in clean energy production.
Within the site boundary at Clyde there are a range of habitats and species of conservation concern. The Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) fulfils the role of on-site ecological advisor, ensuring that the development is delivered in line with the ecological impacts assessed in the Environmental Statement.
As Clyde ECoW, LUC is committed to environmental protection, regularly offering advice relating to water pollution prevention, peatland management and habitat and species conservation. It is a challenging and rewarding role — ensuring that the environmental gains relating to green energy production are delivered, whilst minimising construction impacts on native flora and fauna.
LUC is a key communication facilitator at Clyde, requiring diplomacy, determination and an ability to prioritise issues with the greatest environmental impact for immediate resolution. The upland, undulating landscape and highly unpredictable weather conditions keep the Clyde ECoW role exciting and demanding.
