LUC assisted Angus Council in securing funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland to restore a set of nine linear parks within the Montrose Conservation Area. The total value of the project was £1.7million.The parks were historically links grassland and were safeguarded from development by George Scott, the Town Provost in the late 19th Century, for the people of the town to enjoy as recreational areas. Restoring the parks would safeguard this significant town asset for the benefit of future generations. The project has included a detailed research and analysis of historic records, plans, sketches and photographs to restore and repair many of the original features of the Mid-links.Overall the project included a combination of restoration and contemporary design to regenerate the parks, associated streetscape and civic spaces. Lost connections have been reestablished. Specialist skills in masonry, ornamental ironwork, monument restoration, lighting and horticulture have been employed.LUC was involved in this project for several years from the original feasibility studies and environmental appraisals, through funding applications, detailed design and construction. Our design team experienced a huge sense of satisfaction in seeing this project come into fruition, having developed a strong connection with the site and its history.
