Thameslink

Thameslink

Following a deferral by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, LUC was appointed to undertake a re-assessment of the potential impacts of the Thameslink Programme on townscape, built heritage and visual amenity in key locations across London.
Our assessment encompassed some of the capital’s most historic areas including Farringdon Station, Blackfriars Station, Borough Market, and London Bridge.
The design of the project minimised demolitions and alterations to historic buildings. However, where demolition was unavoidable (for example at Borough Viaduct) new buildings were designed to minimise impact on townscape character and built heritage.
LUC’s thorough assessment helped to secure planning permission for the scheme, which has now begun on site. A total of 4km of platforms will be lengthened before the Olympics, and the major works at Blackfriars, Farringdon and Borough Viaduct began in 2009.
