Trentham Gardens Restoration

Trentham Gardens Restoration

The gardens and park at Trentham cover some 300 acres and are known for the surviving formal gardens laid out in the 1840s by Sir Charles Barry. The parkland setting and lake were designed by Capability Brown.
The client was eager to demonstrate their interest in green space and the impact on quality of life that the gardens provide. The site incorporates a retail village, garden centre and large car park, but because of the master plan layout none of this is visible from the garden.
LUC worked with a number of experts; including international garden designers, Piet Oudolf and Tom Stewart Smith to prepare the refurbishment plans for the gardens and park.
LUC used a combination of computer analysis and traditional hand drawing to present the historical development. We used a 3D computer net model to represent the contours and draped the aerial photograph over it. On top of this we layered the various historical plans. These composite images were then overdrawn by hand to produce easy-to-read aerial views. We also helped to procure a highly skilled Head Gardener to deliver high-quality horticulture. Our thorough, professional approach gave confidence to the local Planning Authority and English Heritage that this hugely ambitious project was really going to happen.
This is one of the largest historic garden restoration projects of this decade. Our experience and reputation for dealing sympathetically with historic designed landscapes meant that it remains close to our hearts.
