Urban Design and Public Realm
At LUC we believe that the pedestrian spatial experience within our towns and cities plays an important role in establishing distinctive, social, healthy and sustainable communities. The creation of new spaces and redesign of existing streets and spaces to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists, enhance legibility, improve vitality and economic performance, and improve connectivity and safety, is a common theme to our work. It is possibly the most direct way for our landscape architects and urban designers to improve the quality of everyday life.
We endeavour to understand how people use urban public spaces, and provide them with integrated, functional, beautiful and lasting designs; public realm design should be clear and understandable for all users, spatially stimulating and respond to a pedestrian scale in terms of space and detail. All our work has a strong contextual focus through our understanding of place and our production of locally distinct designs. We strive for solutions that are not only creative and innovative, but practical, functional, sustainable and affordable.
LUC frequently work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams often delivering complex and challenging urban design and public realm projects. We build strong relationships based on honesty, respect, creativity and professionalism. We work at a variety of scales delivering:
• Development frameworks & Spatial Plans
• Site masterplans
• Public Realm and Open Space Strategies
• Design and delivery of public realm and streetscape designs
• Urban parks design and restoration
