CREATING DISTINCTIVE PLACES FOR PEOPLE TO LIVE AND FLOURISH
Urban Regeneration
Our work rejuvenates urban areas, rebuilding civic confidence and the richness of town and city living.
Through strategic and site-specific design, LUC creates urban places with distinct identities, responsive to context and to the demands of communities for safe, well serviced, accessible and sustainable environments. Our place making addresses built environments of various scales and contexts from villages to city quarters. In all cases we are sensitive to the local culture and character of the place.
Our multi-disciplinary teams address all aspects of the urban environment - integrating urban planning, urban design, characterisation, access/traffic, conservation and urban landscape management. LUC also works in partnership with economists, engineers and architects to ensure our products form comprehensive and robust tools for development planning and policy formulation.
LUC is committed to the principles of sustainability and this is reflected in our work through:
- Reduction in car dependency
- Pedestrian access provision and linkages
- Communal use of green and civic spaces
- Streets for life, culture and commerce
- Energy efficient forms of building
- Use of SUDs
LUC also undertakes urban design at the strategic level, encompassing urban masterplanning, spatial frameworks and regeneration strategies. This is complemented by our expertise in public realm and streetscape design and implementation. The latter has involved several major projects utilising natural stone pavements and incorporating traffic calming, pedestrianisation, public art and lighting initiatives.
