Transforming the renewable energy landscape
LUC managed the preparation of the Development Framework for the Hagshaw Energy Cluster.
We worked in partnership with NatureScot, East Ayrshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS), 3R Energy Solutions Ltd, ScottishPower, BayWa r.e. Global, Octopus Energy, and Ventient Energy to develop the concept.
Shaping the future of wind energy
The Hagshaw Energy Cluster is an established location for large-scale renewable energy projects covering seven operational wind farms and four that are consented.
The framework will help shape the future of the cluster and is pioneering a new approach to planning for wind energy.
It puts forward a collaborative and inclusive approach to how Scotland can achieve Net Zero by 2045.
Community engagement
LUC led consultation with landowners, communities, local businesses and other stakeholders.
We developed a framework that will guide future planning applications to promote positive transformation in the renewable energy landscape.
It brings wider social and environmental benefits and identifies opportunities to enhance and invest in communities and the environment.
Benefits for people, place and nature
As well as helping tackle the climate emergency, this project advocates for quality design and maximising benefits for people, nature and place.
It plans for landscape and habitat restoration, as well as widescale recreational connectivity.
The work promotes peatland enhancement, native woodland expansion, and ecological improvements across the landscape.
"Over the past year, we have used the Development Framework to draft an action plan that embeds existing community action plans and ambitions within the strategic vision laid out. While we are only starting to deliver, the Development Framework provides us with the best starting point - a collaborative vision that a range of partners and stakeholders have committed to. It moves us towards a positive and inclusive future with a focus on Net Zero. Thanks to all.”
