LUC Landscape Managers are set to work on the latest agri-environment research project for Defra. This time, our work will focus on Coastal Floodplain Grazing Marsh.
Working alongside the Countryside and Community Research Institute and Environment Systems, we will look at:
- The appropriateness of the current designation;
- The role of agri-environment schemes (AES) in protecting the habitats’ biodiversity interest;
- The role of AES in improving natural floodplain functioning.
LUC will visit agreement holders across England to discuss the practicalities of managing this important habitat. The project will help decide whether Defra requires a new designation for this habitat. It will inform the development of the new Environmental Land Management scheme.
