Airigh Wind Farm receives consent with EIA support from LUC
EDF has been granted consent to build Airigh Wind Farm in Argyll and Bute. LUC conducted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on behalf of Force 9 Energy/EDF.
The project, situated south-west of Tarbert, has been granted consent by the Scottish Government for 14 turbines of varying height and capacity. These turbines will range from 131 to 149.5 meters and will generate between 3.6 and 4.2 megawatts of power each. The consent allows for a maximum capacity of 58.8 megawatts which is enough to power up to 35,000 homes. Furthermore, the consent allows both new access tracks to be built and existing tracks to be upgraded.
The project is part of a Joint Development Arrangement between EDF Renewables and Force 9 Energy. This partnership sees Force 9 Energy lead the project through the planning and development stage and to construction, with EDF Renewables then taking the lead on building and operating the wind farm.
LUC completed the EIA for Force 9 Energy/EDF in August 2017, with the original application submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit in September 2017. Initial objections were withdrawn in August 2019 after supplementary information was submitted in February of the same year. Holyrood ministers said that all significant issues had been sufficiently considered so no public inquiry could be justified.
We look forward to seeing the constructed wind farm actively contributing to Scotland’s ambitious renewable energy and climate change targets.
