LUC supports design proposals for Anne Rowling Clinic

LUC is proudly supporting design proposals for an extension to the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Design proposals

The proposed extension will offer patients access to flagship research programmes and participation in clinical trials. It will also accommodate an expanded research team.

The extension itself will be three storeys high, added to the west of the existing clinic building. This will provide additional clinic rooms, community and collaborative spaces, and offices.

The facility will also gain a roof terrace and ground floor therapy garden. These spaces will provide wellbeing centred facilities for both staff and building visitors.

LUC has worked closely with the University of Edinburgh, client steering group and wider design team led by Keppie Design.

About the Anne Rowling Clinic

The Anne Rowling Clinic is based at Edinburgh BioQuarter, adjacent to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. It opened in 2013 following a donation from J.K. Rowling in memory of her mother, Anne, who died from complications related to multiple sclerosis (MS).

It delivers research and clinical trials for people with neurodegenerative diseases such as MS and motor neurone disease (MND), as well as hosting NHS specialist clinics for patients with these conditions.

The clinic is now running at full capacity, and requires more space to expand care and research. In September 2019, Ms Rowling donated a further £15.3m, which is inclusive of gift aid, to the University to create new facilities and support vital research at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic.

Proposals were recently submitted for planning consent and technical construction design stages are underway.
