Antonine Wall wins Association for Heritage Interpretation award
We are delighted that the Antonine Wall has picked up an award from the Association for Heritage Interpretation (AHI).
The AHI ‘Engaging People Awards‘ celebrate the best heritage, nature, culture and science experiences in Britain and Ireland.
The distance slab and ‘Silvanus’ sculpture at Nethercroy won the ‘Outdoor’ award category.
The project will now go forward to compete for the Award for Overall Excellence later this the month.
LUC acted as lead Landscape Architects for the display of five replica distance slabs at sites across the Antonine Wall. We produced design proposals for siting and interpretation of the slabs, including landscape and environmental improvements.
We also developed concepts for two sculptural Roman ‘heads’ located in two prominent sites at Nethercroy and Lambhill Stables.
West Dunbartonshire Council appointed LUC to the project from the concept and feasibility stage. We have managed the project through to construction, where we acted as Contract Administrators.
Our work is part of the wider ‘Rediscovering the Antonine Wall’ project, which aims to strengthen the heritage and public awareness of the wall.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Kelvin Valley & Falkirk LEADER Programme, five local authorities and Historic Environment Scotland are funding the project.
