LUC completes large-scale Character Assessment of Northern Ireland
LUC has completed the regional-scale Landscape Character Assessment of the whole of Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) required a strategic overview of the landscape in Northern Ireland, identifying the combinations of nature, culture and perception which make each part of Northern Ireland unique.
LUC also developed an online application to allow users to see the character assessment and access its content through an interactive map of Northern Ireland.
NIEA will use this evidence base to enable informed decisions to be made about the future protection, management and sustainable development of Northern Ireland’s landscapes, and it will be complemented by more detailed local studies. It is also hoped that the study will form the first part of an all-Ireland regional Landscape Character Assessment.
