LUC completes Basingstoke and Deane Community Building Assessment Project
LUC has completed the Basingstoke and Deane Community Building Assessment project, recently published in support of the New Local Plan Regulation 18 consultation.
This initiative evaluates the state of community facilities in the Basingstoke and Deane Borough.

We collaborated with local stakeholders, gathering insights through questionnaires and site visits.
This shed light on travel patterns, financial viability, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these vital spaces.
Findings include the need for electric vehicle charging points and enhanced sustainable travel options.

Survey responses highlighted challenges with pandemic-related declining facility use, despite 61% finding hiring fees 'about right'. Encouragingly, 19% expressed an increased likelihood of post-COVID use of community buildings.
Our report suggests space standards for new community buildings, considering population growth, and offers operational and policy recommendations.

Moving forward, LUC continues supporting the community building network, providing assessments and evidence for local plans, and planning support for site-specific projects.
This milestone marks a crucial step toward creating vibrant, accessible spaces that meet evolving community needs.
We extend gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions to this impactful project.
