LUC appointed to design Black Rock seafront landscape scheme

LUC has been appointed to provide design services for an ambitious landscape scheme at Black Rock seafront in Brighton.

Our landscape architects submitted a concept scheme for planning in late 2019. Our appointment has since been extended for landscape design development and delivery of a complex engineer-led project within the Kemp Town conservation area.

The project centres on the remediation and preparation of the abandoned and neglected Black Rock site for future development. It requires innovative ecological mitigation, seawall construction and access improvements. This allows for significant public realm improvements along the 1km length of seafront.

The landscape scheme negotiates a dramatic 15m level change and a series of beachside boardwalks with regular play and public spaces featured to create a destination landscape for Brighton.

Our appointment to this project is particularly exceptional. It was our Design team’s first experience of a project interview undertaken virtually, due to the COVID-19 social restrictions. We look forward to moving onto the detailed design stage with the aid of digital resources in place of site visits until the lockdown restrictions allow us.
