LUC completes Buccleuch Property Challenge
Earlier this month, three staff from LUC’s Glasgow office took up the gauntlet thrown down by our clients SP Energy Networks to take part in the 10 edition of the Buccleuch Property Challenge at Drumlanrig Castle, situated on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
The event began at 9.30am on Friday 9 September when the 73 teams set off along the grand castle driveway to embark on 8 hours of physically challenging adventure racing. The weather proved to be as equally challenging as the course itself and after mountain biking up and down hills, running through forests, swimming through the icy waters of the River Nith, fixing punctures and completing team challenges, LUC finished the entire course in a gruelling 5.5hrs.
Our staff were delighted to finish a very respectable 4 in the mixed teams category (missing out on a podium spot by a mere 10 minutes) and 9 overall. Most importantly, LUC raised a fantastic £1,110 for ChildLine – more than three times the original target of £300, and a substantial contribution towards the overall £10,000 target set by the organisers. The total included a generous donation of £200 from the company.
Video evidence of the day can be seen here (note particularly at 2.7-2.10 mins and 3.01 mins):
Our client, Stephen Jack from SP Energy Networks, had this to say about the challenge:
“Both teams put in a great effort dealing with some tough weather conditions on the day but both the SPEN and LUC teams had great fun getting around the course. LUC in particular were very unlucky to miss out on a podium place but their 4 place finish in the mixed group category was an excellent effort nonetheless and justifies all the donations they received which will go to a very worthy cause.”
