LUC expertise informs major planning application in Bushey, Herts
A major detailed planning application was lodged recently on behalf of Comer Homes. The third and final phase of the prestigious redevelopment at Royal Connaught Park consists of 115 residential units in the extensive grounds of 15 listed and other existing buildings – previously the Royal Masonic School for Boys and then the American University.
LUC provided expertise on landscape design, ecology and Landscape and Visual assessment. Our proposals include a masterplan for the large site and detailed proposals for the application area. These proposals maximise landscape (restoration and enhancement), ecological (over 5h of habitat creation), recreational and access (new shared cycleway and pedestrian link) benefits and the reduction of negative impacts on landscape character and visual amenity.
Taken together, the proposals and assessment shows there to be little impact on openness and a very substantial contribution to the argument for development despite the site’s Green Belt status.
Other key design team members are Savills (planning) and Plus Architecture, Dublin.
