Building with Nature showcases Toryglen Green Infrastructure case study

Building with Nature (BwN) has featured the North Toryglen Green Infrastructure and Access project as a case study on its website.

LUC designed the masterplan and acted as landscape architects for the creation of a mixed-use park with sustainable transport routes and an improved nature reserve. The project transforms an area of former derelict land and is the catalyst for further regeneration in the local area.

BwN commended the project for using its assessment process to inform high quality multifunctional green infrastructure.

The design was informed by robust community and stakeholder engagement conducted by LUC in conjunction with Urban Roots – a community organisation working in the area since 2009.

The resulting scheme provides better linkages between residential areas, facilities, and transport services by extending local walking and cycling routes.

Our green and blue infrastructure proposals are essential for improving biodiversity and community facilities, providing:

  • Sustainable drainage
  • Wildlife corridors
  • Natural play
  • Outdoor exercise
  • Education

By applying sustainable design principles, we aimed to create an exemplar of climate change mitigation and green regeneration.

A major initiative launched by the Scottish Government identified North Toryglen as an area experiencing multiple deprivation and health inequalities. It is one of eight ‘Transformational Regeneration Areas‘ in Glasgow City – areas of derelict land that developers are regenerating with new housing and associated green & blue infrastructure.
