Canna renewable energy project gains planning consent
We are pleased that the Canna Renewable Energy and Electrification Project has been given the go-ahead by the local council and will now move on to the next phase.
LUC was commissioned by the Isle of Canna Community Development Trust to undertake a landscape and visual appraisal. This appraisal was to accompany the planning application for a proposed community wind farm and solar photovoltaic array on the Isle of Canna.
The proposed wind farm comprises six turbines, an invertor shed, and an underground power cable, connecting to the mains. The proposed turbines will have an approximate installed capacity of 30kW and will be located on the Islet of Sanday, just south of the Isle of Canna.
The schemes are capable of supplying 100% of the islands electricity needs and will significantly reduce the reliance on diesel generators for local residents.
Stewart Connor from the Isle of Canna Community Development Trust said the following “Our project involved obtaining the necessary statutory consents to deploy a renewable energy scheme within a sensitive Island landscape protected by various designations. The Isle of Canna Community Development Trust were delighted with the depth and quality of expertise offered to us by LUC in the field of landscape and visual assessment. This assisted us greatly in obtaining these consent and has now brought our Community managed renewable energy project a step closer to a successful outcome”.
