LUC wins bid to complete Cannock Chase State of the AONB report
LUC has been appointed to complete the 2018 State of the AONB Report for the Cannock Chase AONB in Staffordshire.
This project will involve close collaboration between our Landscape Planning and GIS & Visualisation colleagues to produce a comprehensive evidence base to inform the upcoming Management Plan review. This evidence base will enable trends over time to be measured, and the forces for change causing any changes to be managed via appropriate actions in the Management Plan.
This will contribute to conserving and enhancing this striking landscape; the largest area of lowland heath in the Midlands area, swathes of which are internationally designated for their nature conservation interest. Cannock Chase provides a valued recreational resource and green space close to dense urban locations including Birmingham to the south, however it needs to be appropriately managed to avoid adverse effects due to large numbers of visitors. The Management Plan, informed by the State of the AONB Report, will aim to strike this important balance.
We have recently completed a similar report for Chichester Harbour AONB and we look forward to working with Cannock Chase AONB over the upcoming weeks.
