Coko Bridge in Rwanda complete with support from LUC
LUC is delighted that the Coko Bridge has recently been completed in Rwanda, giving the community a better chance at life and a safe way to cross the Akanyaru river.
LUC donated funds for the venture, to help longstanding client Grimshaw Architects deliver this inspiring project in Africa. Ten volunteers, including five from Grimshaw, travelled to Rwanda to work on this charitable project in conjunction with Bridges for Prosperity.
The previous makeshift timber bridge was unstable and due to high flood waters was impassable for at least two months of the year.
The new suspended foot bridge will connect 1 500 people to various vital amenities on the other side of the river including schools, hospitals and markets.
