A morning of volunteering at Cairngorms Connect
Our Associate Director of Landscape Planning, Dan Walker, dedicated a morning to volunteer at the Cairngorms Connect Tree Nursery last week.
Nestled within the Caledonian pinewood at Abernethy, situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, the nursery is instrumental in cultivating native woodland and montane scrub species. These plants are intended for transplantation across the Cairngorms Connect project area, contributing to the ambitious 200-year vision aimed at revitalizing the ecological balance of the area.
Working with fellow volunteers, Dan helped with planting mountain birch trees in designated beds, nurturing them for an additional growing season. These trees will later be transferred to the hills, away from browsing pressure, as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the Cairngorms ecosystem.
At LUC, we're proud to encourage our team to engage in Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) volunteering. Each year, our staff members have the opportunity to dedicate a day to a volunteer activity of their choice, making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
