
LUC launches digital innovation research and development project
LUC is proud to announce it is investing its resources into accelerating digital innovation through an exciting research and development project – ‘Going Digital’.
Planning, design, construction and management services are data-hungry and often lack integration. This in turn reduces efficiency and effectiveness.
There are signs of change, however, with the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill setting out measures to increase the use of high-quality data and digital services in the planning process, in both plan-making and development management. This could include powers to require compliance with data standards and to make planning data publicly available through an open licence.
LUC has produced digital reports for several years, which allow our outputs to be more accessible and reach new audiences in new locations. Recent trailblazing outputs include an interactive web app for Natural Resources Wales that identifies the areas of natural dark skies and areas with light pollution across Wales.
However, to stay one step ahead of developments in this field and offer the best service to our clients, LUC’s initial ‘Going Digital’ project will involve internal and external consultation, including clients, to identify key opportunities for innovation.
