LUC obtains Natural England dormouse survey licence
We are delighted that our Ecologist Amy Coleman has recently been granted a Natural England dormouse survey licence, allowing LUC to carry out surveys for the hazel dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius, a European Protected Species (EPS).
Surveys may be required where dormice or their habitat may be affected by proposed developments, allowing us to help clients develop a robust ecological baseline to support planning applications, avoid impacts where possible and develop mitigation proposals when needed. Surveys involve putting up nest boxes or tubes, and checking them monthly to see if they have been occupied by dormice.
This licence strengthens LUC’s in-house survey skill set, and enables a quick response and effective solutions where dormice are concerned. Contact the ecology team if you require any further information by emailing us.
