LUC undertaking East Dorset and Purbeck Landscape and Heritage Study
LUC is happy to begin work on a Landscape and Heritage Study for Dorset Council. It will cover the former East Dorset and Purbeck local authority areas.
The project will bring together our Landscape Planning and Historic Environment experts.
This is the third Landscape and Heritage Study LUC will produce for Dorset Council; it follows studies covering the West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland and North Dorset areas. This time, we will complete an evidence base covering the whole of the Dorset Council area.
The outputs of the project will help to inform the forthcoming Dorset Council Local Plan. This study will focus on the sensitivity of land surrounding 14 settlements within the area. It will identify areas which may be able to accommodate future development as well as inform appropriate scale and form. There will be a strong focus on protecting the high-quality landscape features and wealth of natural and built heritage features within the study area, which also includes parts of the Cranborne Chase and Dorset AONBs.
LUC will provide guidance on how to minimise potential harm to landscape and heritage features, to best conserve the historic character of these settlements and their landscape setting.
