LUC advises E.ON on London’s Square Mile low-carbon heating system
LUC has helped E.ON achieve permission to build a low-carbon heating system for London’s Square Mile. The £4m scheme will provide the same amount of heat as used by 2,300 average UK homes with 50% less carbon emissions.
LUC supplied Historic Environment and Development Planning services. We prepared a Heritage Statement due to the site’s Grade II listed building and an archaeological desk-based assessment as the site lies next to the City of London Archaeological Priority Area. The cemetery associated with the Saint Sepulchre-without-Newgate workhouse, established c.1727, coincides with the site. Our work showed that the scheme would not harm the listed building and would not affect any burials.
LUC also prepared two planning and listed building applications – one for the physical works within the building, and one for the boreholes. The planning applications demonstrated that the development would be acceptable on policy and amenity grounds in its own right. Our work showed that the scheme would assist in helping the area meet its carbon reduction target.
We are pleased to have helped our client secure planning permission quickly and with minimal planning conditions.
