Civic Trust Awards recognise Godolphin and Latymer School Redevelopment
We’re delighted that the Godolphin and Latymer School dining, library and sixth form scheme has been Highly Commended at the Civic Trust Awards 2025.
LUC provided landscape design and planning consultancy support for the project, working in close collaboration with Walters & Cohen Architects to deliver a series of thoughtfully designed courtyard spaces as part of the wider redevelopment of this prestigious girls’ school in Hammersmith, west London.
Our planning services included heritage advice, helping the proposals to integrate sensitively with the school’s Grade II-listed 1861 building and the Bradmore Conservation Area in which the site sits.

The Civic Trust Awards celebrate excellence in architecture, planning and design, with a strong focus on projects that offer a positive social and environmental impact.
The commendation recognises the quality and sensitivity of the overall scheme, which includes new facilities for dining, the library and sixth form, along with enhanced outdoor spaces that support wellbeing, learning and day-to-day school life.
Supporting wellbeing through landscape
LUC’s role focused on transforming the school's key external courtyards into versatile and serene environments that complement the surrounding architecture and offer meaningful opportunities for students and staff to engage with nature.
The courtyards were designed to serve a variety of functions – from outdoor dining and socialising, to quiet study and ecology-based learning. A restrained material palette and extensive new planting help to create a calm, cohesive setting that is already proving to be a valuable part of the school’s daily experience.

A closer look at the landscape design
At the heart of the scheme is the Library Courtyard, a quiet, sheltered space framed by buildings on all sides. Designed with raised planting beds, precast concrete benches, and small timber decks, it offers a series of informal spaces for gathering and reflection. A glazed link corridor connects the courtyard to the adjacent Biology Garden and provides elevated views across the space.
In the Biology Garden Courtyard, new trees, a pond, raised planters and paved gathering areas invite students to interact with the site ecology in support of the school’s curriculum. A central pergola provides shade and a place to socialise throughout the day.
The Eastern Courtyard, near the school entrance, has also been reimagined to create a more welcoming arrival experience, with timber benches integrated into raised planters and new soft landscaping enhancing the streetscape.

Collaboration at the heart of success
The Highly Commended award is a reflection of the collaborative efforts across disciplines. LUC worked closely with Walters & Cohen Architects and the wider project team to ensure the landscape and built environment were integrated seamlessly, delivering long-term value to the school community.
We’re proud to have contributed to a project that prioritises both design quality and wellbeing – and to see that effort recognised by the Civic Trust Awards panel.
