Historic Environment and GIS team begin Historic Characterisation studies
Building on our ongoing consolidation of the Historic Seascape Characterisation (HSC) for Historic England, LUC has been commissioned to produce historic characterisations of Ramsgate and Weston-super-Mare land and their sea environs.
Ramsgate and Weston-super-Mare are two of the first towns to be named under the Heritage Action Zone programme, a recent initiative in which Historic England works with local partners to use the historic environment as a catalyst for economic growth.
This project forms a key part of the new programme, as one of the main outputs will be a GIS-based map resource with associated accessible texts which explains the evolution of each town.
Working in association with Karen Averby of Archangel Heritage, LUC’s specialists bring expertise in coastal heritage assets, historic landscape characterisation, Historic Seascape Characterisation, GIS, data processing and landscape/seascape character assessment.
