LUC to refresh Landscape Character Assessment of Wirral
LUC is delighted to be commissioned to review and refresh the existing Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) for Wirral Council.
Our work will update the existing 2009 assessment. It will take account of recent policy changes including the NPPF and the publication of the ‘Approach to Landscape Character Assessment’ (Natural England 2014).
The study will add value through a thorough understanding of key sensitivities, key issues, landscape condition and quality and future management needs, rather than undertaking an entirely new classification. It will provide an evidenced baseline and practical tool to guide future planning and management decisions in a way which protects, enhances and manages this valued landscape.
Our work will include a seascape assessment for the coastal landscape character areas, referencing the National Seascape Character Assessment we produced last year.
We will also undertake a Landscape Sensitivity Study for sites identified in the Initial Green Belt Review or later in the Local Plan process, taking into account the publication of ‘An approach to landscape sensitivity assessment’ (Natural England 2019).
