Lews Castle Grounds receives Heritage Lottery funding
We are delighted that the HLF have awarded £3.9million towards the regeneration of Lews Castle Grounds on Lewis.
Lews Castle is the only designed landscape in the Western Isles and is ranked as ‘outstanding’ in the Inventory of Gardens & Designed Landscapes. HLF’s support will enable a comprehensive programme of landscape restoration to commence.
LUC led the preparation of the successful HLF application on behalf of the Stornoway Trust and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and will administer the forthcoming delivery phase.
The landscape regeneration project will complement the Lews Castle Project, which is nearing completion. This landmark development comprises a new museum for the Western Isles and the restoration of the Castle as a hotel, overlooking Stornoway. It will form the centrepiece of the restored landscape, making the Castle and Grounds one of the main attractions in Scotland’s outer islands.
