LUC delivers Low Car Neighbourhoods webinar for local authorities
LUC hosted a successful webinar this week about low-car neighbourhoods, which was aimed at local authorities and developers.
The webinar examined how effective planning can enable successful low-car neighbourhoods during the post-pandemic recovery.
Susanne Underwood, Associate Environmental Planner at LUC, chaired the event. She was joined by three guest speakers:
- Stuart Hay, Scotland Director, Living Streets
- Jen Blacklaw, Senior Construction Project Manager, Place Development,
City of Edinburgh Council - Mike McCarthy, Architect, Collective Architecture
Susanne and Stuart discussed how low-car neighbourhoods can promote active and sustainable travel, and reduce emissions from transport. They also addressed the wider positive impacts for human health, minimised climate risks, and improved living conditions in dense urban environments.
Jen and Mike spoke about the Meadowbank regeneration project in Edinburgh, Scotland, which is a leading low-car development. They have both been closely involved with the project, and offered invaluable insight into planning and architecture.
Over 50 people joined the webinar, and we look forward to hosting more in the future.
