LUC begins second phase of The National Trust's proposed 8 Hills Regional Park spatial framework

LUC has started work on phase two of The National Trust's proposed 8 Hills Regional Park project.

The National Trust commissioned LUC to create a spatial framework for the park. The framework will include planning policy recommendations for Bromsgrove District Council’s Local Plan, boundary recommendations for the regional park, identification of and consultation on priority projects and clear, practical next steps to deliver the regional park.

The 8 Hills Regional Park aims to protect and enhance the landscape on Birmingham’s southern fringe in the Bromsgrove district. The improvements will increase access and boost its biodiversity and ecological connectivity.

Our planners, landscape planners and ecologists completed the first phase of the project in April 2023. The works included:

  • Baseline data collection and analysis to identify priority areas, sites and links for access, nature and recreation.
  • Stakeholder consultation to collect local knowledge and priorities for the development of the regional park from existing users of the area and from groups located in proximity who may benefit from the development.
  • Production of a long list of potential opportunities that would improve access, recreation and nature in the regional park area.
  • Development of a concise and clear vision and set of objectives for the regional park.
  • Stakeholder workshop to test draft opportunities, vision, and objectives.
  • Preparation of a final report on the outcomes of the first phase and setting out recommendations for the next phase of work.
