LUC providing Claypits guided tour on behalf of IEMA Scotland West
LUC is organising and delivering a guided tour of Glasgow Claypits on behalf of IEMA‘s Scotland West branch.
Duncan McLean, Director of Landscape Architecture at LUC and project director, will lead the tour.
He will be joined by Joanna Wright, our Director of Environmental Planning, who is a member of IEMA’s Scotland West Regional Steering Group.
Duncan will detail the site’s transformation from ‘Vacant and Derelict Land’ to a vibrant community greenspace. He will also discuss the challenges overcome by the project.
Following this, the session will open to a discussion about the benefits of providing access to multi-functional and meaningful greenspace.
The underlying principle of the Claypits has been to improve the health and wellbeing of local communities through increased access to greenspace. In doing so, the project has also responded to heritage, cultural and ecological sensitivities.
The Claypits opened to the public in Summer 2021 as a partially-designated Local Nature Reserve. It has delivered significant new path infrastructure, various bridges and boardwalks, viewpoints, play and activity components, service infrastructure, habitat improvement, and integrated SUDS infrastructure.
The tour takes place at 17:30-19:00 on Wednesday 24 August, and bookings close at 12pm one day prior.
The session contributes 1.5 hours of CPD for IEMA members.
