LUC undertaking Climate Resilience Assessment for Waterways Ireland
Waterways Ireland has recently appointed LUC to undertake a Climate Resilience Assessment of cultural heritage and navigational assets along the seven navigations under its remit.
Our GIS & Visualisation team is investigating the impacts of current and future climate patterns using the assessment process LUC recently piloted for Fingal County Council, broadly based on the method developed by Historic Environment Scotland.
We are assessing the potential impact of six natural hazards on each asset. Our findings will be presented in a risk score matrix for each asset.
Waterways Ireland is the navigation authority for over 1000km of lakes, rivers and canals in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The aim of this assessment is to inform how Waterways Ireland prioritises its climate adaption measures.
The Heritage Council is part-funding this project through its Heritage Stewardship Fund.
