LUC Director gives university lecture on carbon management within EIA
Joanna Wright, our Director of Environmental Planning, enjoyed giving a virtual lecture to a group of Erasmus funded MSc students in Spain last week.
The students, including a number from Glasgow Caledonian University, are all studying for an MSc in Urban Climate and Sustainability. Joanna’s session included practical case study examples, based on LUC’s EIA projects, and formed part of the course unit on practical tools and case studies.
Joanna supplemented her MSc in EIA with a recent MSc in Carbon Management. She has overseen the preparation of EIA climate change chapters for major mixed-use developments, a large housing development, a football stadium complex, an ‘Eco-Park’ and several renewable energy developments. She prepared the climate change chapter for the 3rd Edition of the Institute of Civil Engineer’s EIA Handbook (2019), was a peer reviewer for IEMA’s guidance on EIA and climate change adaptation and is currently directing a research project on the consideration of greenhouse gas emissions in EIA, on behalf of ClimateXChange.
Led by Joanna, LUC’s work on addressing climate change in EIA also culminated in LUC’s shortlisting in 2019 for IEMA’s inaugural ‘Innovation in Impact Assessment’ award.
