LUC EIA team recognised by IEMA for ongoing commitment to high-quality EIA practice
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) team at LUC has successfully fulfilled its Commitment 7 deliverables under the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Quality Mark scheme for the year.
IEMA’s Quality Mark is a an industry recognised, voluntary certification programme designed to promote high standards in EIA. IEMA independently reviews an organisation’s activities to ensure alignment with best practices across the sector. As the professional body with which most of the LUC EIA team are professionally accredited, IEMA plays a central role in setting and maintaining these standards.
Commitment 7 – “Improving EIA Practice” – requires participating organisations to work in partnership with IEMA to enhance the profile of quality EIA, share good practice and contribute to sector-wide learning.

This year, LUC demonstrated its commitment by sharing a range of expert contributions:
- Joanna Wright, Director of Environmental Planning, delivered a presentation on ‘Greenhouse Gas Emissions and EIA’ at Scotland’s EIA Conference 2024, offering insights into integrating carbon considerations into assessment practice.
- Dan Walker, Associate Director of Landscape Planning, contributed to the Scottish Government’s Aviation Lighting Guidance Working Group, helping to shape the newly published Guidance on Aviation Lighting Impact Assessment.
- Jo Wotton, Associate Director, Environmental Planning, also submitted an article published in IEMA’s Impact Assessment Outlook Journal (Vol. 24) on ‘Delivering Proportionality in Impact Assessment’, alongside a presentation titled ‘Advancing EIA Practice: The Onshore Wind Sector Deal for Scotland’ delivered at Ireland’s EIA Conference 2025.
Through these contributions, the LUC team continues to support the advancement of EIA practice, in line with its commitment to excellence and knowledge sharing within the wider environmental assessment community.
