LUC gives Bristol walking tour of green infrastructure
LUC recently celebrated the life of Jane Jacobs by giving a walking tour of green infrastructure around Bristol city centre. LUC organised the session in collaboration with the RTPI Young Planners.
Jane Jacobs was a renowned urbanist and activist whose work helped to change the way designers and planners see cities. It was her observation of the New York neighbourhoods in her writing that inspired the elements of placemaking we use today across the world. Every year, ‘Jane’s Walks’ help people to observe and connect to their community and environment.
Nick Smith, Edward Tarratt and Trishna Patel from LUC took part in the walk around Bristol city centre to share their experiences of green infrastructure.
The walk also gave an opportunity to discuss Natural England’s recently launched Green Infrastructure Framework. 15 integrated principles underpin the framework, and the walk allowed for valuable discussion concerning potential opportunities and challenges for planners to consider.
Thank you to all the young planners who joined us. We hope they continue to observe the environment around them.
