LUC and Argyll & Bute Council to transform active travel in Oban
Argyll and Bute Council has appointed LUC to improve Oban’s active travel routes, aiming for shorter, safer, and easier daily journeys.
The project, funded by Sustrans, targets new infrastructure in the northern area of Oban, encouraging walking, wheeling, and cycling — particularly around The Corran Esplanade and George Street.
LUC’s transport planners and landscape architects are leading the project, public engagement, and collaboration with Sustrans, Argyll & Bute Roads Officers, and Transport Scotland. Our involvement includes coordinating surveys, exploring traffic management efficiencies, and advising on long-term travel planning measures.
The team has led the development of an area access framework, options, visuals, and will oversee the Stage 2 Concept Design.
LUC’s public consultation is helping us gain insights into the priorities of the local community. This was achieved through a virtual consultation room, a focus group with S4 pupils, and a workshop with the Oban Access Forum during Stage 2 of the design process.
