LUC produces heritage strategy report for York and North Yorkshire

LUC has produced a heritage strategy report for the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Historic England.

The report aims to put heritage at the heart of Covid recovery, and reinvigorate the region’s towns and villages.

LUC developed the project, and its outputs, in collaboration with key staff from the LEP and Historic England.

In response to our initial research, we held a series of workshops and interviews with upwards of thirty individual stakeholders. These workshops helped us to understand issues, opportunities and heritage-led regeneration work already underway.

We then produced a report setting out a high-level framework to aid businesses, delivery partners and the general public, by:

  • Appraising the quality, character and importance of York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding’s historic places and landscapes; and
  • Identifying opportunities for ‘win-win-win’ development in the region – securing positive outcomes for people, the economy and the historic environment.

The report also establishes priorities for action on the part of key partners and stakeholders. These priorities centre on unlocking development potential, improving understanding and enhancing the contribution of heritage to the region’s economy.

This document is intended to support and complement the York and North Yorkshire Local Industrial Strategy developed by the LEP, which sets out a framework for ‘good growth’ in the region.
