LUC supports Natural England landscape and nature recovery projects
Natural England commissioned LUC to prepare a suite of informative and engaging internal learning materials to motivate, support, and guide their area advisers.
These materials will help advisers to plan and facilitate nature recovery projects that deliver good biodiversity and landscape outcomes.
Our outputs included:
- Six nature recovery case studies in England (Humberhead Peatlands in South Yorkshire, Revitalising Redesdale in Northumberland, Wendling Beck in Norfolk, Wild Ennerdale in Cumbria, Wild Purbeck in Dorset, and Somerset Wetlands in Somerset) and the key landscape lessons;
- A case study analysis to synthesise the landscape lessons and opportunities;
- Illustrated scenarios of how to embed a landscape approach in nature recovery in upland, chalk downland, coastal and peri-urban landscapes;
- A summary document on landscape and biodiversity synergies;
- A top tips document; and
- A short video showcasing the suite of outputs and lessons to help Natural England area advisers involved in planning, implementing and monitoring nature recovery projects.
Nature recovery projects provide huge opportunity for landscape regeneration to help address the biodiversity and climate crisis. They also, in many cases, deliver a range of other ecosystem services including providing access to nature for people.
Maximising positive outcomes requires a landscape-led approach that assesses the whole landscape and the habitats within it, while engaging people along the journey.
Natural England received our work positively, and provided a glowing commendation of key team members involved.
We look forward to seeing the results as exciting projects come forward that enhance our landscape and help nature to recover.
