LUC in the running for New London Award for Camden playground project

LUC is looking forward to Thursday as we are shortlisted for a NLA award for our Camden Active Spaces project.

After the project’s success at the Camden Design Awards last year, New London Architecture (NLA) has nominated us at their annual New London Awards on Thursday 7th July for our Camden Active Spaces project in the wellbeing category which celebrates schemes that boost the comfort of others.

LUC worked with three schools around Camden, asking children what they want from their play-areas. This resulted in the completion of stimulating and engaging spaces that aimed to address the issue of childhood obesity. The finished playgrounds contained many bespoke elements such as trampolines, climbing towers, nets, balance trails and monkey bars to encourage high levels of physical activity across a range of abilities.

NLA will consult an international team of judges who will be “seeking schemes of the highest design quality, that demonstrate a positive impact on their surroundings and make a wider contribution to life in the city.”

The winning schemes will be announced on 7th July at NLA’s annual lunch at The Guildhall in London. LUC’s Tumbling Bay scheme at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park won the NLA’s Best Public Space winner in 2014.
