LUC scoops Landscape Institute award for Cassiobury Park restoration
LUC has picked up a Landscape Institute award for The Restoration of Cassiobury Park in Watford. We won in the Heritage and Conservation category.
The £5m restored park in Watford opened to the public in 2017 after years of design work as lead consultant. LUC restored surviving historic features such as the monumental Lime Avenue and carriage drives and estate watermill ruins; recreated iconic features of the picturesque parkland such as the Rustic Bridge; restored key aspects of the ‘Peoples’ Park’ – the tea pavilion and garden, the Bandstand and refurbished the water play area.

Landscape Architects at LUC, Alex Massey and Ed Manning, collected the award at the ceremony in London on 22 November alongside our client, Watford Borough Council and Historic England.
LUC was also highly commended for our Landscape Sensitivity and Green Infrastructure Study for Leicester and Leicestershire.
We were commissioned by the County and District Councils in Leicestershire to provide evidence to help ensure that locations identified for economic and housing development conserves and enhances landscape, biodiversity and green infrastructure. Our Landscape Planning and Strategic Planning teams used a systematic assessment framework to examine the sensitivity of the landscape, exploring the extent to which different areas can accommodate development without impacting on their key landscape qualities.
